NYSVARA MOURNS THE LOSS OF……

RAYMOND THIELKE

It is with the deepest sadness and a heavy heart that we let our EMS community know that Raymond Thielke, EMT-P died last night after a long and valiant fight against illness. He was 59 years old.

Ray was a spirit to be reckoned with, that had EMS in every fiber of his being, starting as a very young man. He grew up in the Utica area and started his life in EMS with local volunteer EMS agencies and Kunkle Ambulance Service. He then committed himself to the New York City Emergency Medical Services (NYC-EMS) as a Paramedic, EMS instructor and Lieutenant.

He then served the citizens of New York State with the Department of Health as an EMS representative and a Health Program Administrator in New York City and Central New York. All this time he continued actively, participating in EMS as a Paramedic, Instructor and Leader.

His passion for EMS continued after he retired from NYS. He was a current member of the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. He served all of this with an unbelievable dedication and seriousness of purpose.

All of this in mind, Ray was above all else a proud and loving family man. He leaves his life-long partner; his wife Kathy and the love of his life, their daughter Lynne, as well as two brothers and two sisters.

Ray was a true gentleman and dedicated his life to EMS and EMS Education

THANK YOU for a Job Well Done

RETIRING THE COLORS-TRADITION

Pulse Check began using a 25X50 American flag loaned to us by a great friend, Jerry Accomondo, from district 1, as the center focus of our podium in 2011. We felt it was a GREAT way to honor our country and it worked wonderfully as a background when photos were being taken of our award winners. At the end of the banquet we realized that the flag needed to be retired properly and that meant finding many people to assist in the process of taking it down and folding it. With the help of youth squad members from Haverstraw EMS and Stony Point EMS, the guidance and Leadership of Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Richard Perry and DJ Chuck Larkin playing God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood we STARTED A TRADITION. (Ironically this was done the same year we honored the memory of the 10th remembrance of 9-11.)

Prior to our banquet in 2016, the flag we used was accidently damaged. A frantic search began. After many hours of not being able to find a suitable replacement, a phone call was made to press secretary Jason Kaplan at the office of Senator Charles E. Schumer. Jason explained the situation to Senator Schumer and he GRACIOUSLY DONATED our new 25x50 AMERICAN FLAG.

With the assistance of Grey Goose Graphics an AMAZING video was produced this year. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
